Pay Homage by Annabel

The brand

With market and trend research, I developed a brand from concept to reality. It was inspired by an adventurous trip to Sable Island National Park Reserve. The intent of the brand was to create collections that do more than clothe a woman’s body. Pay Homage by Annabel aimed to inspire and inform the customer of some of Canada’s national treasures and iconic landscapes. While this is done in part through style and design, Pay Homage by Annabel also recognized the importance of supporting the organizations that work to support our national heritage and cherished landscapes. As such, a portion of the proceeds from sales were to be donated to selected non-profits. For Volumn 1 collection, the beneficiary organization was to be the Friends of Sable Island Society. This non-profit organization strives to advocate for the island through education, interpretation, and preservation programs.

The Volume 1 collection was selected by Jeanne Beker as one of the top 17 out of 62 collections to be exhibited in Ryerson University’s Mass Exodus Curated Industry Show.

The runway

Volume 1: Jane Eyre Goes to Sable Island was inspired by an adventurous trip to the wild Sable Island National Park Reserve where I was able to unplug from the busy-ness of everyday life. It tells the story of Jane Eyre being influenced by the wild horses and transforming from a woman constricted from her Victorian times to a free-spirited, confident women. Though dressed initially in classic Victorian apparel, slowly she begins to transform. Tailored jackets are replaced with tiered skirts, blouses, billowing pants. Her colours begin to reflect the sand and the grass, replacing traditional black with something more natural. A whimsical and romantic look begins to sweep over Jane, though her past still remains visible through simple lines and detail.

The collection was selected by Jeanne Beker as one of the top 17 collections from the graduating class to be featured in the Mass Exodus Curated Industry Show at Ryerson University.

Make it stand out.

My entrepreneurial spirit led me to exceed the project guidelines and develop a website, coffee table book to tell a cohesive story of the collection and brand as well as leaving an on-brand baked treat with the judging panel to create a positive brand experience.
